Haymaker, a free WordPress gym theme — the home page of the live demo
The demo is this theme, rendered from the same stylesheet that is inside the download.

What Haymaker is for

Haymaker bills your members against their excuses: the front page is a fight poster split into a red and a blue corner, and every photo can be printed in those two colours. Underneath it is a working gym site — a timetable typed into one box that shows today’s fight card, an “On now / Next up” badge and an “Open now” badge worked out in your time zone, coaches as ordinary pages with their classes listed automatically, memberships as weight classes and a trial-class form that keeps every booking even when email fails. Appearance → Haymaker setup has a self-ticking checklist, one-click demo content with a one-click undo, every style preset and the trial requests. Five presets, bundled fonts, no external requests.

What’s in it

  • A face-off hero: your two words billed across a red and a blue corner, in three layouts
  • The whole timetable in one box — day ranges, 12/24-hour times, tags that become filters
  • “On now”, “Next up” and “Open now” in your site’s time zone, recomputed in the browser so cached pages stay right
  • Coaches as normal pages with a tale of the tape and their classes pulled from the timetable
  • Memberships as weight classes, results as before → after cards, a printable week
  • A trial-class form with nonce, honeypot, time trap and rate limit that keeps a copy of every request
  • Appearance → Haymaker setup: self-ticking checklist, one-click demo content and undo, presets, requests
  • Five presets with live contrast checking, duotone photos, every effect on a switch, reduced-motion safe

Installing it

  1. Download the zip — haymaker.zip, 884 KB. Do not unzip it.
  2. In WordPress, go to Appearance → Themes → Add New → Upload Theme.
  3. Choose the zip and press Install Now, then Activate.
  4. Set it up under Appearance → Customize — colours, menus, layout and the front-page sections all live there.

Installing by FTP instead? Unzip it and upload the haymaker folder into wp-content/themes/, then activate it from Appearance → Themes.

Frequently asked

Do I need a booking or timetable plugin?

No. The timetable is one box in the Customizer, one class per line, and the trial-class form is built in. Requests arrive by email and are also kept under Appearance → Haymaker setup.

Will “On now” be right for my visitors abroad?

Yes. It uses your site’s time zone, not theirs, and is worked out again in the browser, so even a cached page shows the right class.

Can I start from a finished example?

Press “Load demo content” on the setup screen. It adds a complete example club, never touches your own posts, and has a one-click remove.

Can I remove the theme credit?

The copyright line is yours to edit in the Customizer. The small “Haymaker theme by The Big Head” credit is part of the theme. It is GPL, so you may modify the code, but there is no setting that hides it.

Is it readable on a phone, or all poster?

Body text is a plain, sturdy face on a comfortable measure; the poster type is for headlines. Every preset keeps text at 4.5:1 contrast and reduced motion stops every animation.

The same promise on every theme here

Genuinely free, including commercially

WordPress themes are GPL v2+, Shopify themes are MIT. Either way: use it on client sites, change it, rename it, sell the site you built with it. There is no “pro” version being withheld and no licence key.

No account, no email, no upsell

The download button is a download button. We do not ask who you are and there is nothing to unsubscribe from afterwards.

Nothing phones home

No Google Fonts, no analytics, no external requests of any kind. Everything the theme needs is inside the zip, which is also why they are small.

Not a page-builder trap

Every theme works with the block editor and the Customizer alone. None of them require a plugin to look like the demo.
