What Highscore is for
Highscore turns a gaming blog, streamer site or esports team into an arcade cabinet. Headlines are pixel lettering drawn as inline SVG — no font file, sharp at any size — over a CRT layer of scanlines and flicker you can switch off. Reviews get a pixel score, hearts, pros and cons, and a verdict. The team or channel gets a “select your player” roster with generated pixel avatars and stat bars, a stream schedule that counts down to the next slot, and a high-score leaderboard, each from a single textarea.

Installing it
- Download the zip — highscore.zip, 378 KB. Do not unzip it.
- In WordPress, go to Appearance → Themes → Add New → Upload Theme.
- Choose the zip and press Install Now, then Activate.
- Set it up under Appearance → Customize — colours, menus, layout and the front-page sections all live there.
Installing by FTP instead? Unzip it and upload the highscore folder into wp-content/themes/, then activate it from Appearance → Themes.
Frequently asked
Is it only for esports teams?
No. It suits any gaming blog or streamer. Turn off the roster, leaderboard or schedule sections you do not need and it is a review-and-news blog.
How do review scores work?
Each post has a small review box: the game or product, a score out of 10, pros, cons and a one-line verdict. Fill it in and the post shows the pixel score and hearts; leave it empty and it is an ordinary post.
Does the pixel lettering need a special font?
No. It is drawn as SVG by the theme, so there is no font file to load and it stays crisp at any size. Body text uses bundled, highly readable fonts.
Can I remove the theme credit?
The copyright line is yours to edit in the Customizer. The small “Highscore theme by The Big Head” credit is part of the theme. It is GPL, so you may modify the code, but there is no setting that hides it.
Will the flicker bother people?
Every animated effect has a switch in the Customizer, and all of them stop automatically for visitors who ask their device to reduce motion.

WordPress themes are GPL v2+, Shopify themes are MIT. Either way: use it on client sites, change it, rename it, sell the site you built with it. There is no “pro” version being withheld and no licence key.

Nothing phones home
No Google Fonts, no analytics, no external requests of any kind. Everything the theme needs is inside the zip, which is also why they are small.
