Frequently asked

How much is HST in Ontario?

Ontario charges 13% HST: a 5% federal part and an 8% provincial part, collected as one tax. On $100 that is $13, so $113 in total.

How much is GST?

GST is 5%, charged across Canada. Provinces with HST fold it in (13% in Ontario, 14% in Nova Scotia, 15% in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and PEI); BC, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Quebec add their own sales tax on top.

What is the GST rate in Alberta?

Alberta charges 5% GST with no provincial sales tax, so 5% total — the lowest in Canada.

How do I calculate GST or HST backwards from a total?

Switch to “Remove tax”. The tool divides the total by 1 plus the rate to recover the pre-tax amount, which is what the CRA expects on a reverse calculation.

Are these rates current?

They reflect the rates in effect for 2026. Always confirm against the CRA before filing.
