Disclosure: Neighbr is ours. The advice works with any app, or with pen and paper.
In short
Ask close to home first — a neighbour or local student can mow, rake or weed for less than a service, and they’re nearby when the grass grows. Agree exactly what gets done, who brings the mower and bags, how often, and the price per visit, then try one visit before you commit to the season.
- Closer is cheaper and more reliable.
- Agree tools, bags and “done” before the first cut.
- Price by the visit, not the hour.
Your options
- A neighbour or local student — flexible, close by, good for mowing, raking and weeding.
- A lawn care company — best for big lots, regular weekly service, or work like aeration and fertilizing.
- A one-off helper — for a spring or fall clean-up, or while you’re away.
What to agree before the first visit
- What gets done: mow front and back, trim the edges, sweep the clippings, rake leaves, weed the beds.
- Whose mower, trimmer, rake and gas.
- Where clippings and leaves go — bags at the curb, your green bin, or your city’s yard waste pickup. Check your city’s rules.
- How often: every week, every two weeks, or when you ask.
- The price per visit, and how you’ll pay.
How to price it
Price by the job: “Mow front and back, about 30 minutes” is easier to say yes to than an hourly rate. A bigger lot, a steep slope or a first cut after weeks of growth is worth more; say so up front.
The fall clean-up
In Canada the fall list is short and seasonal: the last mow, raking or mulching the leaves, cutting back perennials, emptying planters and putting the hose away before the first freeze. It makes a good one-off job to ask for.
Then line up help for winter. Our guide to finding someone to shovel snow covers what to agree before the first storm.
Stay sensible
Meet the person first, outside, before you hand over a key to the shed or garage. Agree the price in writing, even in a chat, and pay when the job is done.
How to ask with Neighbr

- Ask for yard help. Type “Mow front and back lawn” or “Rake leaves and bag them”, say when — as soon as possible, in the next few days, or whenever works — and add a photo of the yard.
- Set a price or ask for offers. Neighbr suggests what neighbours usually offer.
- Compare offers side by side. Notes, prices, ratings, how often each person has helped, and whether they’re Top rated or have a verified phone.
- Pick one, then ask again in one tap. A private chat opens to sort out the details. When it’s done, leave a review and ask again for the next mow.
Neighbr is free with no fees, and it never handles money — you settle up directly, by cash, e-Transfer or however you both agree.
Common questions
How do I find someone to mow my lawn?
Ask neighbours and local students nearby first, or a lawn care company for big lots and weekly service. Agree what gets done, the tools, and the price per visit.
Is there an app to find someone to mow my lawn?
Yes — on Neighbr you ask, neighbours nearby offer, and you pick one. It’s free with no fees.
Who supplies the mower?
Agree it up front. Many neighbours will use your mower; some bring their own and charge a little more.
What does a fall yard clean-up include?
Usually the last mow, raking or mulching leaves, cutting back perennials, emptying planters and putting hoses away before the freeze.
