SmartFolio
FIFO (first in, first out) means when you sell shares, the oldest shares are sold first. SmartFolio tracks this for you, so your cost basis and the gain on each sale are accurate.
No. SmartFolio has no account and no sign-in. Your portfolio stays on your device, and SmartFolio has no server that stores it.
Tap the + button on the Dashboard and choose Add Trade. Search for the stock by ticker or name, enter the date, shares and price, and save.
Yes. Tap + on the Dashboard and choose Import from Broker or File (it is also in Settings → Data Management). There are step-by-step guides for 19 brokers, including Wealthsimple, Questrade, TD, RBC, Interactive Brokers, Fidelity, Schwab, Vanguard and Robinhood. Any CSV or Excel file works too. Import your full history, or just the holdings you own today. You see every row, account and symbol before anything is saved, and rows already in SmartFolio are skipped.
Yes, with Convert with AI. SmartFolio gives you a prompt to copy. Paste it into your own AI chat assistant along with your statement, screenshot or text. Copy the CSV it replies with, come back and tap Paste. You check every row before saving. SmartFolio itself sends nothing to any AI service. The assistant sees whatever you give it, so remove account numbers and personal details first.
Prices, charts, search and exchange rates come from Yahoo Finance and need no key. If you add your own free Finnhub key, SmartFolio also uses Finnhub for news, search and company details. Prices from these sources may be delayed.
Stock pages show free headlines from Yahoo Finance. The news feed on the Markets tab needs your own free Finnhub key. Get one at finnhub.io, then add it in Settings → Market news (optional) → Add a free news key. The key stays on your device. Prices and charts never need a key.
When you import from your broker, SmartFolio adds the splits for you. To add one by hand, open the stock, tap the ••• button and choose Record a stock split. Then pick or enter the ratio, for example 4:1.
Import them with your broker file, or open the stock, tap the ••• button and choose Record a dividend. Go to Reports → Income to see your dividends and interest by month, year and stock, plus an estimate for the next 12 months.
Go to Settings → Data Management → Backup & Restore. Create Backup saves everything to a file. Keep it somewhere safe, like iCloud Drive. Restore from Backup shows you a preview, then you choose Merge (keep what you have and add what's new) or Replace (swap in the backup). Either way, your current data is saved to a rollback file first. There is no SmartFolio server, so we can't restore data for you.
Yes. Go to Settings → Data Management → Export Data. You can export every transaction and cash entry as CSV, a holdings summary with cost basis and realized gains, or a full backup. The Reports tab also shows your profit by stock and year, and you can share reports as a PDF.
Yes. Turn on Settings → Security → Face ID Lock. SmartFolio then asks for Face ID or your passcode when you open it and when you come back to it. On a device with Touch ID, it uses Touch ID instead.
